Durak Hazelnut on the Black Sea Economy Agenda

Durak Hazelnut Board Member Kadir Durak answered Murat Gürsoy's questions in the Black Sea Economy programme.
Durak Hazelnut, which is in the top 500 in Turkey with its investments and figures, has 850 employees within its own structure. He stated that they work with 5 active facilities and a factory under construction and that 10 billion TL turnover and 160 million dollars export figure has been reached in the last ten months.
Determined to leave a cleaner world to future generations, Durak Hazelnut continues its sustainability investments. Within the scope of these investments, while meeting their own electricity with 12 MW investment in Turkey, they are moving towards 110 MW solar energy capacity in Romania. In addition, he stated that due to the high cocoa prices, an Ordu-based chocolate factory was tried to be purchased, but an agreement could not be reached. Explaining solar energy investments, Kadir Durak said, ‘Solar energy investments not only reduce carbon emissions, but also contribute to the protection of natural resources and sustainable environmental protection. These environmentally friendly energy solutions help us to protect the planet in a responsible and effective way by not producing chemicals or harmful waste. He emphasised the importance of sustainable investments.
Expressing his views on the danger of brown skunk in the sector, Kadir Durak mentioned that skunks will be in our lives for at least 10 years, that everyone in the sector should fight together and that the hazelnut sector may end if no measures are taken. He underlined that Samurai Bee Farms should be established in every province for the struggle.
Speaking about the future of the hazelnut sector, Mr Durak stated that a hazelnut law is needed in Turkey. Within the scope of this law, he said that the integrity of the gardens should not be disrupted and the gardens should be given to people who are engaged in real agricultural activities. He ended his speech by saying that Turkish Hazelnut should go out of the traditional market and should see the value it deserves.
