SUÇİİİIP (Sustainable Child Labour Monitoring and Improvement Programme), which Durak Hazlenuts is conducting with Barry, started with 45 producers in 2020 due to the pandemic. By the end of 2023, 50 producers were reached.
In the first year of the programme, since the producers participated in this programme for the first time and had not been involved in any sustainability work before, their level of awareness was quite low, but by 2023, a progress of 100% was achieved in the producers.
This programme, carried out in cooperation with Durak Hazelnut and Barry Callebaut, has achieved significant success in disseminating sustainable agricultural practices among hazelnut producers, preventing child labour, ensuring gender equality and increasing awareness of environmental protection. Training programmes and field studies improve the knowledge and skills of producers and set an example in the fields of sustainability and social responsibility in agriculture. This cooperation can serve as a model for the dissemination of sustainable agricultural practices not only in the Black Sea Region of Turkey but also worldwide.
Barry Callebaut's support and Durak Hazelnuts leadership in this programme provides a successful example of an approach that embraces the principles of sustainability and social responsibility in the agricultural sector. It is of great importance for a more sustainable and fair agricultural sector that such collaborations continue to increase in the coming years.
