Practical training was given to the producers in İkizce by the hazelnut experts of Ordu Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry. Detailed training on hazelnut pests and diseases was given to the producers.
1-Bacterial Blight Disease in Hazelnut
Infected buds with bacterial blight turn brown and die over time.
Infected buds may open partially or completely in summer. The shoots that develop from these emerge as infected. Dried branches appear dry from the outside. The leaves on it mostly dry by curling and become parched.
Cancer formation in the tree trunk is the most important stage. The wounds usually surround tree trunks up to 4 years old and cause their death.
Cultural Measures;
- Healthy seedlings should be preferred.
- Planting should be done at normal intervals.
- Damaged shoots and branches should be destroyed.
2-Hazelnut Cone Mites
It enters the fruit and shoot eyes of the hazelnuts and inflates them. Deformed eyes cannot perform their functions. It is a very small, elongated cylindrical or carrot-shaped matte white mite.
Cultural Measures;
- Cones should be collected and destroyed during the leafless period.
Organic Struggle;
- Spraying is necessary if there are an average of 5 cones per branch. The second application should be made in the first half of April and 15 days later.
3- Bottom Exile in Hazelnut
Bottom shoots reduce the aeration capacity of the quarry, but also share nutrients and minerals. This situation slows down the development of the quarry and may cause yield reductions. In this study, it was aimed to determine the effect of root shoot cleaning frequency on hazelnut yield and quality.
