Durak Hazelnut Board Member Kadir Durak answered Murat Gürsoy’s questions on the Black Sea Economy program.
Durak Hazelnut, which is among the top 500 with its investments and figures in Turkey, has 850 employees. He stated that they work with 5 active facilities and a factory under construction and that they have reached a turnover of 10 billion TL and an export figure of 160 million dollars in the last ten months.
Durak Hazelnut, which is determined to leave a cleaner world for future generations, continues its sustainability investments. Within the scope of these investments, while they meet their own electricity with a 12 MW investment in Turkey, they are moving towards a 110 MW solar energy capacity in Romania. In addition, he stated that due to the high cocoa prices, an attempt was made to purchase a chocolate factory based in Ordu, but an agreement could not be reached. Kadir Durak, who explained the solar energy investments, said, ‘Solar energy investments not only reduce carbon emissions, but also contribute to the protection of natural resources and sustainable environmental protection. These environmentally friendly energy solutions help us protect the planet responsibly and effectively by not producing chemical or harmful waste.’ He emphasized the importance of sustainable investments with his words.
Kadir Durak, who expressed his views against the brown skunk threat in the sector, said that skunks will be in our lives for at least 10 years, that everyone in the sector should fight together and that the hazelnut sector could end if precautions are not taken. He underlined that Samurai Bee Farms should be established in every province for the fight.
Mr. Durak, who also spoke about the future of the hazelnut sector, stated that a hazelnut law is needed in Turkey. He said that within the scope of this law, the integrity of the gardens should not be disrupted and the gardens should be given to people who are engaged in real agricultural activities. He ended his speech by saying that Turkish Hazelnuts should go beyond the traditional market and should get the value they deserve.
