Barry-Suçiiip Activity Report

Durak Hazelnuts SUÇİİİP (Sustainable Child Labor Monitoring and Improvement Program) carried out with Barry started with 45 producers in 2020 due to the pandemic. By the end of 2023, 50 producers had been reached.

In the first year of the program, since producers participated in this program for the first time and had not previously taken part in any sustainability studies, awareness levels were quite low, but as of 2023, 100% progress was achieved among producers.

This program, carried out in cooperation with Durak Fındık A.Ş. and Barry Callebaut, has achieved significant success in disseminating sustainable agricultural practices among hazelnut producers, preventing child labor, ensuring gender equality and increasing environmental protection awareness. Training programs and field studies develop the knowledge and skills of producers and set an example in the fields of sustainability and social responsibility in agriculture. This cooperation can be a model for disseminating sustainable agricultural practices not only in the Black Sea Region of Turkey but also around the world.

The support provided by Barry Callebaut in this program and the leadership of Durak Fındık provide a successful example of an approach that has adopted the principles of sustainability and social responsibility in the agricultural sector. The continuation of such collaborations in the coming years is of great importance for a more sustainable and fair agricultural sector.
