Durak Hazelnut participated in the “International Conference on the Development of Responsible Business Behavior in Turkey: Implementing Norms,” organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the ILO Turkey Office, as part of its sustainability efforts.
The conference, funded by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey, also hosted the closing event held within the scope of the “Prevention of Child Labour in Seasonal Agriculture Project.” The program, attended by representatives from public institutions, international organizations, the private sector, workers and employers, civil society organizations, and academics, addressed topics such as responsible business behavior, human rights, decent work, ethical supply chains, and sustainable development.
During the two-day conference, the responsibilities of businesses within the framework of the United Nations Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, the ILO Declaration on Multinational Enterprises (MNE Declaration), and the Human Rights Due Diligence obligation were evaluated, along with current international developments. Furthermore, the impact of the European Union's new sustainability regulations on global supply chains and exporting businesses was shared with the participants.
During the sessions held throughout the conference, best practice examples regarding the dissemination of human rights-respecting business models, the protection of children's rights, the strengthening of ethical supply chains, and the practical implications of responsible business behavior were discussed.
As Durak Hazelnuts, in line with our long-standing efforts towards the protection of children's rights, support for seasonal agricultural workers, the dissemination of responsible agricultural practices, and human rights-focused supply chain management, particularly through our Every Child a World program, we had the opportunity to closely follow the current developments and best practice examples shared at the conference.
Durak Hazelnuts will continue to strengthen its human rights-respecting, ethical, and traceable supply chain approach, develop its sustainability efforts in line with international standards, and resolutely maintain its responsible business approach in all its activities.
